Good news:
Apple knows where you are and can tell others

When you
are installing iOS 4, you should read this new paragraph in the software
licence that says that Apple has the right to "collect, use, and share
precise real-time geographic location":

To provide
location-based services on Apple products, Apple and our partners and licensees
may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time
geographic location of your Apple computer or device. This location data is
collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you and is
used by Apple and our partners and licensees to provide and improve
location-based products and services. For example, we may share geographic
location with application providers when you opt in to their location services.

Apple and
its partners have been using location for a while. That's how the Maps,
Twitter, Flixter, Foursquare, or Yelp work. The difference is that you are now
giving Apple the right to store that information and share it with third parties.
In that paragraph, Apple obscurely claims that the location data is collected
anonymously, but there's no description of the exact storage and access policy.
At least, I can't find it anywhere.

Most
logically, the location information is tied to your device unique
identification number. That's the only way to keep track of location moves, and
the only way this feature can work for advertisers and app developers. Sadly,
this doesn't make the storage anonymous, like Apple claims: Even while it may
not contain your name or social security number, the location information could
in theory be crossed with a user database to pinpoint the real-time location or
the location history of any individual. Recent cases have taught us that
apparently is not that hard to have access to unique device identification
numbers and their respective user names.

So the
questions now are: What data do they exactly record? How is the location data
tied to the unique identifiers of your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad? Who exactly
can access this information and when? What could be the reasons for accessing
this information? How, when, and why police and federal authorities can access
your device whereabouts? How long this information is going to be stored? Can I
ask Apple to delete all my location information whenever I want?

The Webby
Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
Established in 1996 during the Web's infancy, the Webbys are presented by The
International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which includes an Executive
750-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries,
visionaries and creative celebrities, and Associate Members who are former
Webby Award Winners and Nominees and other Internet professionals.

The Academy
is an intellectually diverse organization that includes members such as
musicians Beck and David Bowie, Internet inventor Vint Cerf, political
columnist Arianna Huffington, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser, "The
Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, R/GA Founder and Chairman Robert
Greenberg, Virgin Atlantic Chairman and Founder Richard Branson, and The
Weinstein Company Co-Founder Harvey Weinstein. Members also include writers and
editors from publications such as The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast
Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe, and WallPaper. The 13th Annual
Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50
states and generated over 750 million media impressions worldwide.

Reflecting
the tremendous growth of the Internet as a tool for business and everyday
lives, the 14th Annual Webby Awards expands the mission of the Webby by
honoring excellence in over 100+ Website, Interactive Advertising, Online Film
& Video, and Mobile Web categories.

The Webby
Awards presents two honors in every category -- The Webby Award and The
People's Voice Award -- in each of its four entry types: Websites, Interactive
Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile Web. Members of The
International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences select the nominees for both
awards in each category, as well as the winners of the Webby Awards. However,
you, the online community, determine the winners of The People's Voice by
voting for the nominated work that you believe to be the best in each category.
Each year, the People's Voice Awards garners hundreds of thousands of votes
from the Web community all over the world.

As part of celebrations of Earth´s Day, VTR launched its
electronic ticket, a move intended to reduce the impact of traditional ticket
on environment.

To subscribe,you
will go to Virtual Branch in vtr.com, or by calling 600 800 9000 or at any
office of the company.

This is the poster that VTR is promoting his campaign.

"Our goal is to make this year at least 20% of
customers migrate to the electronic ticket. We are talking about 200.000
customers in terms of environmental impact are a monthly production of 18 tons
of paper," said Marcelo Von Chrismar, Financial Vice President of VTR. VTR´s
ultimate goal is to reach all customers with Internet access (about 700.000
households), and they can access their workplaces.

In terms of environmental
impact, to stop printing the number of tickets equal to 20% of customers, a
year is equivalent to:

    * 296 without cutting down trees.
    * 7920 liters of water.
    * 136 800 kilowatts.

Yesterday, Monday April 5th, around 400,000 students from earthquake affected
areas returned to school.

As of Monday, the city of Los Angeles and the provinces of
Biobio and Ñuble had normal classes for over 90% of the children there. However in the communes of Tome, Cobquecura
and Arauco there are still difficulties in starting the classes.

President Sebastian Piñera has announced the deadline of
April 26th to have all students back in the classroom. According to The
Minister of Education, Joaquin Lavin, the goal can not be expanded because if a
child enters later than 50 days after the commencement of a school year it does
not count as a full school year.

“We are racing against time, with modular schools BE HANDED OVER(have to be delivered) before April 26. But for now we must continue working full”, Lavin
said. After they return all students to
class using mosular schools, reconstruction will begin on permanant classrooms.
